NTI Announces 2008 Photo of the Year Contest Winner

(April 6, 2009 — Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. President Paul Kaludjak announced today that Niore Iqalukjuak of Arctic Bay won NTI’s 2008 Photo of the Year Contest.  Iqalukjuak won $1,000 in prize money and an enlarged copy of his photograph after a selection committee composed of NTI employees judged the 2008 winners of the Photo of the Month Contest. This is the second time Iqalukjuak has won this contest.

Nathanael Ningiuk, of Pond Inlet, took second place and won $200.00 and an enlarged copy of his photo, and Juilie Kooneeliusie, of Qikiqtarjuaq, took third place and won $100.00 and an enlarged copy of his photo.

“There was a very strong showing this year and it was difficult to select only three photos. I congratulate the winning photographers. This is an ongoing contest and I encourage Inuit to explore their talent and to continue to submit their photos,” said NTI President Paul Kaludjak.

. A team of NTI employees judges the entries and selects a winner each month. Monthly winners are then entered into the Photo of the Year Contest. Inuit can submit photos of landscapes, communities and wildlife. Pictures of people will be considered, although photographers must have the people who appear in their pictures complete and sign photo release forms. Photographers who enter the contest must also complete a photographer consent form.  All forms can be downloaded from NTI’s website or obtained from NTI’s Department of Communications. Forms must be completed and signed and submitted with the photograph.

Iqalukjuak’s photo, and all other submissions, can be viewed online at www.tunngavik.com.
