NTI Board Approves Further Enhancements to Uqqujjait Innarnut Elders Support Program

For Immediate Release

(June 17, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut) The Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) Board of Directors has approved additional enhancements to the Uqqujjait Innarnut Elders Support Program, effective April 1, 2026.

Elders born between January 1, 1959, and December 31, 1961, who apply to the program will start receiving $250 per month beginning August 1, 2026. Payments will be retroactive to April 1, 2026, so eligible Elders will receive the full amount for those months. Monthly payments will increase each year on April 1 for a cost-of-living adjustment.

Elders already receiving monthly payments do not need to reapply. The program will automatically apply any increases for eligible recipients.

For new applicants, the forms for the program will be made available through Community Liaison Officers in every community and on the NTI website at Tunngavik.com to ensure payments are received by August 2026.

“Elders are the heart of our communities, carrying the wisdom, traditions, and stories that define who we are,” said NTI President Gloria Uluqsi. “As living costs rise, it is more important than ever to ensure they receive the support they need. This increase is another step toward honoring and caring for our Elders.”

Funding for the Uqqujjait Innarnut Elders Support Program continues to be provided through NTI’s share of mineral resource revenues, ensuring sustainable support for Elders across the territory.
