NTI President Expresses Condolences

(July 24, 2015 – Rankin Inlet, Nunavut)     Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) President Cathy Towtongie today expressed deep sadness over the passing of Tongola Sandy, a long-time member of the NTI Board of Directors and the President of the Kivalliq Inuit Association.


“On behalf of the Board, I wish to extend heartfelt condolences to Tongola’s wife and children and his many extended family members in Nunavut. Tongola was a great man and an inspiring leader who meant so much to his family and community, and we find comfort in the knowledge that his legacy will live on in his children and grandchildren,” said President Towtongie.


Tongola also worked on the Manitoba Denesuline negotiations, was a member of the Nunavut Planning Commission, and signed the Inuit Impact and Benefits Agreement that led to the creation of the Ukkusiksalik National Park.
