Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. President Cathy Towtongie today offered congratulations to the winner of the 2015 Photo of the Year Contest. Esau Tatatoapik of Arctic Bay took first place for his photograph of Arctic Bay at night. Aimo Paniloo of Clyde River placed second with his photograph of northern lights at low tide, and Kimmirut resident Pudloo Pitsiulak placed third with his photograph of hunters cutting up a seal in the sunlight.
Tatatoapik was awarded $1,000 in prize money, received an enlarged copy of his photograph, and has the honour of having his photograph appear as the cover of NTI’s annual report and ad template artwork.
Paniloo won $500 and Pitsiulak won $250.
NTI began the Photo of the Year Contest in 2006. Participation in the contest has increased tremendously in recent years due to social media circulation, with some photographs being viewed and shared by thousands of people.
Inuit are encouraged to continue to participate. Details and entries can be viewed at http://photocontest.tunngavik.com/website-photo-contest/photo-of-the-year/.
