Get Your Moderna Vaccine to Protect Against COVID-19

(January 19, 2021, Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) is encouraging all Nunavut Inuit to get vaccinated with the Moderna Vaccine.

“The researchers who developed the Moderna vaccine have a high level of knowledge about vaccines and have gone through Health Canada to get this approved. We need to get our information from these experts”, said James Eetoolook, Acting President of NTI.

The Moderna vaccine is 94% effective at preventing serious infection due to COVID-19.  Elders, people with pre-existing conditions, and front-line workers will get priority for the vaccine. The vaccine is safe for people with pre-existing conditions such as heart conditions, diabetes, cancer, tuberculosis, and other lung conditions.

“Over the past year, we have all worked hard to protect our families, front-line workers and community members. Getting the vaccine will further protect the health and safety of Nunavummiut.”

“I wish to thank the public health staff with the Government of Nunavut for making information available in Inuktut, for your leadership during the outbreak and for working tirelessly to get the vaccine to as many Nunavummiut as possible”, said Eetoolook.

Public Health measures can only be gradually lifted and are dependent on the percentage of Nunavummiut who get the vaccine.
