(May 19, 2006 – Rankin Inlet, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) 2nd Vice-President Raymond Ningeocheak would like beneficiaries to know how the Nunatuqaminut (Traditional Lands) Travel Program works.

It has become a common request, beneficiaries wanting to travel from one community to another community. And we do get requests too from Inuit living in southern provinces wanting to travel to their home communities in Nunavut. Ningeocheak said.

The program does not cover travel from community to community, but to help families go back to where they used to live before Inuit started moving into communities, Ningeocheak said.

Individuals can access a maximum of $500 and groups can access a maximum of $5,000.

Recipients must be registered beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement (NLCA). This is a one-time assistance program, which NTI provides on a first come, first serve basis.

Application forms are available on NTI’s web-site at www.tunngavik.com or by contacting the NTI office in Rankin Inlet at 1-888-236-5400 or 1-867-645-5400 and ask to speak with the Beneficiary Programs Administrator.
