NTI and QIA Presidents Attend Launch of Bank Note

 (April 7, 2017 –Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) President Aluki Kotierk and Qikiqtani Inuit President (QIA) PJ Akeeagok today attended the unveiling of a special commemorative $10 bill that features the artwork of the late Inuit artist Kenojuak Ashevak. Kotierk and Akeeagok attended the event alongside members of Ashevak’s family members and other Nunavut Inuit and Canadian dignitaries.

The presidents expressed pride in seeing the work of an internationally-renowned Inuk artist featured on the new bank note.

“Today we remember Kenojuak Ashevak’s contribution to our society. This is significant for family members and community members and for all Inuit,” said Kotierk. “We celebrate Inuit creativity and achievement. Every time Canadians see the $10 bill, it will be a reminder that Inuit have been here for much longer than 150 years.”

“I am honored to celebrate with all Canadians that Ms. Kenojuak Ashevak’s powerful art is being recognized by the Bank of Canada. Ms. Ashevak’s drawings are known worldwide. I am pleased to be here with her family to celebrate this profound Inuk woman from our Qikiqtani region,” said Akeeagok.
