NTI Responds to Federal Government Major Projects Announcement

For Immediate Release

(September 12, 2025 – Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) President Jeremy Tunraluk issued a statement today in response to the Government of Canada’s major project announcements this week.

“We had hoped Nunavut’s major nation-building projects would be included in the Federal government’s initial list,” said President Tunraluk. “At the same time, NTI is encouraged that Canada recognized the Gray’s Bay Road and Port in the Kitikmeot region as a project that would transform our Country. We expect to see Canada move forward on this and other critical projects.”

NTI, working in partnership with the Government of Nunavut (GN), has advanced four priority initiatives under the GN-NTI Arctic Sovereignty and Security Strategy: the Gray’s Bay Road and Port, the Iqaluit Hydroelectric Project, the Kivalliq Hydro-Fibre Link, and the Qikiqtarjuaq Deep-Sea Port. These Inuit-led infrastructure projects will strengthen Canada’s Arctic sovereignty, reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources, advance connectivity for Nunavut communities, and improve Inuit social and economical wellbeing.

Canada’s major project announcements are an important step toward building a stronger, more resilient country. NTI will continue to work closely with federal and territorial partners to ensure that Nunavut’s transformative projects are fully reflected in Canada’s next announcement of priority developments.
