(September 27, 2007 – Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. today released this year’s schedule for the Qauma Mobile Treatment Project.
In 2007/08, the project will deliver healing and treatment services in four Nunavut communities as identified by a steering committee comprised of former residential school students from Nunavut. Healers will form a team to travel to communities for one month periods to provide healing and treatment to former residential school students, and to anyone who wants to heal from trauma or abuse.
The Qauma project focuses on the mental, physical, social and spiritual needs of its participants. Workshops on grieving, coping skills, anger management, healing and sharing circles, as well as one on one counseling are offered.
The Qauma Mobile Treatment Project is funded by the Aboriginal Healing Foundation. The project was launched by NTI in 2003 to help former residential school students deal with the long lasting effects of their experiences.
The schedule for this year’s visits follows.
Kimmirut: Oct. 13 – Nov 4.
Whale Cove: Nov. 19 – Dec. 14
Taloyoak: Jan. 14 – Feb 8.
Pond Inlet: Feb. 25 – Mar. 21
