Iqaluit, Nunavut (December 4, 2000) Paul Quassa has been reinstated as president of Nunuavut Tunngavik Inc (NTI). The reinstatement is effective immediately.

On Thursday November 30, Quassa delivered a cheque for $25,528.31 to NTI. This cheque covers the amount owed by Quassa for personal expenses charged to NTI, except for $3,498.60 in pre-approved expenses that will be recovered through salary deductions.

Paul Quassa has fulfilled the conditions set out in the Resolution passed by the Annual General Meeting regarding his reinstatement, said James Eetoolook, Acting President of NTI. He has repaid the amounts owed to NTI and has submitted a letter of commitment regarding the future operation of his office. We welcome him back and wish him all success in continuing to provide leadership to NTI.

NTI systems are working as they should, Eetoolook continued. The by-laws, policies and reporting procedures under which Paul Quassa was called to account are evidence of that. We have confidence in our financial systems, which are operating to protect the resources of the Beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement.
