NR 08-28 ESS ENG Youth Contest Winners.doc

(July 9, 2008 — Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. President Paul Kaludjak today announced the winners of The 606 Contest, a contest for 15-year-old Inuit youth. The event was designed for Inuit born between Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 1993.

In order to enter the contest, participants had to send in an essay explaining their thoughts on any aspect of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement.

I was so impressed with the quality of the essays sent in by all the participants, said Kaludjak. Their understanding of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement at a young age is inspiring, and gives me tremendous pride today as we celebrate the 15th anniversary of our land claim.

A panel of NTI judges reviewed the submissions and selected four winners. They are David Korgak Jr. of Iqaluit, Stephanie Kootoo of Ottawa, Danielle Meyok of Kugluktuk and Douglas Ollie of Arviat. The winners all received cash prizes of $1,500. All applicants were sent sweatshirts bearing the name of the contest.
