Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) Chief Returning Officer Mary Wilman announced today that the nomination period for the NTI Election for President runs from Oct. 31 – Nov. 4, 2016. Nomination forms can be obtained from the chief returning officer, community liaison officers, or from NTI’s website once the nomination period opens.
Eligible candidates must file their nomination papers with the chief returning officer no later than 5 p.m. local time, Nov. 4, 2016. Candidates are responsible for ensuring that nomination papers are received. Candidates who do not have their nomination papers submitted by the deadline will not be permitted to run in the NTI Election for President.
Voters now have five ways to vote in NTI elections. Voters can vote:
1) at advance polls on Dec. 5;
2) in person on election day on Dec. 12;
3) by mobile poll on election day on Dec. 12;
4) proxy vote on election day on Dec. 12; or
5) mail-in ballot post-dated on or before Dec.12.
Eligible candidates must be Canadian citizens, at least 16 years of age by Dec. 12, 2016, and be enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement. Potential candidates may withdraw their nomination papers until 5 p.m. local time on Nov. 7, 2016.
