(December 5, 2007 -Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. President Paul Kaludjak announced today that NTI hired Sandra Omik to work as legal counsel to NTI. Omik, originally from Pond Inlet, is a member of the Nunavut Bar Association and a graduate of the Akitsiraq Law Program. Omik graduated with a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Victoria.
I am pleased to make this announcement today. NTI fully supported the Akitsiraq Law Program since it began, and I am proud today to be able to say I work with an Inuk lawyer who successfully made her way through a made-in-Nunavut law school, said Kaludjak.
Prior to joining NTI, Omik worked as a Crown attorney in Iqaluit and was a Commissioner of the Nunavut Law Commission.
Sandra is a role model to Inuit. She set her sights on a difficult goal and through perseverance and hard work, she achieved her dream. I look forward to working with her as NTI assists with implementation of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, said Kaludjak.
