Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) Vice-President James Eetoolook today announced that Mary Wilman of Ayaya Communications Ltd. would serve as the Chief Returning Officer (CRO) for the NTI Election for President, Dec. 12, 2016.
The nomination period for the election runs from Oct. 31 – Nov. 4, 2016. Eligible candidates and voters must be Canadian citizens, at least 16 years of age, and enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement. Nomination forms can be obtained from the CRO, Community Liaison Officers, or NTI’s website once the nomination period opens.
Candidates are responsible for ensuring that nomination papers sent to the CRO are received. If nomination papers are not received by deadline, a potential candidate will not be permitted to run in the election. Candidates may withdraw their nomination papers until Nov. 7, 2016 at 5 pm local time.
Voters in the NTI Election for President can vote using one of five different methods, which include advance polls on Dec. 5, 2016, mobile polls, proxy, using a mail-in ballot or on Election Day, Dec. 12, 2016.
