NTI Applauds New Canadian North Schedule

(March 20, 2008 — Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik President Paul Kaludjak today applauded Canadian North for implementing a new schedule and routes that reach more communities in Nunavut.

During our Board meetings and our annual general meetings, we have lobbied Canadian North officials to change their routes to better serve Inuit. We co-own the airline so it makes sense that it meets our needs, said Kaludjak.

Canadian North announced their new schedule this week in celebration of their ten year anniversary of Inuit and Inuvialuit joint ownership. The schedule features flights to more Baffin communities with connections to the Kitikmeot, Ottawa and Yellowknife.

NTI hopes the new flight schedule will create a climate of competition in the Northern airline industry, thereby leading to better ticket prices for Inuit. We have passed several resolutions at our meetings calling for reduced airfares and freight costs. We hope we are now headed in that direction, said Kaludjak.
