Inuit Head to the Polls for NTI Elections 2006

(March 15, 2006 — Iqaluit, Nunavut) NTI Elections Chief Returning Officer Patrick Tagoona today announced that Inuit will head to the polls next Tuesday, March 21, 2006 to elect one person to serve as NTI’s 1st Vice-President and Vice-President of Finance.

Iqaluit resident Joe Sageatook will challenge Taloyoak’s James Eetoolook for this position on the NTI Executive.

Inuit Beneficiaries who are 16 years of age and older, enrolled under the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement and Canadian citizens are eligible to vote in NTI Elections.

For more information about the location of polling stations in each Nunavut community, or in Yellowknife and Ottawa, voters can contact Chief Returning Officer Patrick Tagoona. Polling stations are open from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. local time.

Voters may also vote by proxy on Voting Day.

Advance Polls were held earlier this week for those eligible Nunavummiut unable to cast their ballots next week.
