NTI President Aluki Kotierk Elected Vice-Chair of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues

(April 15, 2024 – Iqaluit, Nunavut) Today the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) announced that Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) President Aluki Kotierk has been elected to the position of Vice-Chair for the UNPFII.

President Kotierk has been a member of the UNPFII since January 1, 2023, and her current appointment runs to December 31, 2025.

President Kotierk is the first Inuk from Canada and Nunavut to be a member of the UNPFII, and the first to be selected to the Vice-Chair position. She joins a select group of Inuit to hold the position, along with Aqqaluk Lynge (Kalaallit, 2006-2008) and Dalee Sambo Dorough (Iñupiaq, Vice-Chair 2011-2012 and 2016-2017, Chair 2014-2016).

The 23rd session of the UNPFII is taking place from April 15-26, 2024, at the UN Headquarters in New York, NY.
