NR 07-03 PHO ENG Photo Contest Winner.doc

(February 8, 2007 — Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. President Paul Kaludjak today announced that Namen Inuarak of Pond Inlet won NTI’s Photo of the Year Contest for 2006. Inuarak won $500 in prize money and an enlarged copy of his photograph after a selection committee of NTI employees viewed the top submissions for 2006.

NTI began the photography contest for Inuit last October. The contest, launched on NTI’s website, provides Inuit with the opportunity to submit their photographs to NTI for use on the NTI website and potentially in publications.

I am pleased to see how popular the photo contest is among Inuit. NTI receives many submissions each month, and it was not an easy task for the selection committee to choose a winning picture from so many great photographs, said Kaludjak. I offer my congratulations to Namen, and I strongly encourage Inuit to continue submitting their photographs to the ongoing contest. Inuit participation allows NTI to share our experiences and our connection to the land with a wide audience of people.

Beneficiaries can enter up to three photographs each month in the contest. A team of NTI employees will judge the entries and select a winner each month. The monthly winning entries are entered into the Photo of the Year contest, the winner of which will receive a $500 award.

Inuit can submit pictures of Nunavut landscapes, communities and wildlife. Pictures of people will also be considered, although photographers must have the people who appear in their pictures complete and sign Photo Release Forms which state that the person agrees to have their image reproduced on the website and possibly in NTI publications and materials. Photographers who enter the contest must also complete a Photographer Consent Form.

Photo Release Forms and Photographer Consent Forms can be downloaded from the website or obtained from NTI’s Department of Communications. These forms must be completed and signed and submitted with the photograph.
Inuarak’s winning photograph, as well as other winning submissions, can be viewed online at www.tunngavik.com.
