NR 02-01 QIA ENG Meeting with Kilabuk.doc

(January 14, 2002 – IQALUIT, Nunavut) Cathy Towtongie, President of Nunavut Tunngavik Inc (NTI) will not be meeting with Meeka Kilabuk concerning issues between Kilabuk and Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA).

It seems that there is litigation pending in this situation, or at least the potential for this matter to end up in the courts, said Towtongie, speaking from Rankin Inlet as she prepared her move to Iqaluit. Under the circumstances, NTI can’t really get involved.

Qikiqtani Inuit Association is a Designated Inuit Organization (DIO) under the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement and represents the Inuit of the Baffin Region. Two representatives from QIA sit on the Board of Directors of NTI.
