President Kotierk Congratulates the Government of Canada’s New and Returning Cabinet Ministers

(November 21, 2019- Cambridge Bay) Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated (NTI) President Aluki Kotierk congratulates the Government of Canada’s new and returning Cabinet ministers who were sworn in yesterday in Ottawa.

NTI is committed to working in partnership with the new Cabinet to ensure the rights and title of Nunavut Inuit are respected. The full and fair implementation of the Nunavut Agreement is central to the work of NTI specifically.

“I know we can make measurable changes to the lives of Inuit in Nunavut by working together with the new Cabinet of the Government of Canada,” said NTI President Aluki Kotierk.

NTI’s strategic priorities include making substantial progress in Inuit employment, strengthening Inuktut in all aspects of Nunavut life, to create an education system that reflects and promotes Inuit priorities and culture, and raising the infrastructure standards in Nunavut up to national levels and meaningful participation by Inuit in government policy and program design and development.

“There has been progress recently, in part through the Inuit Crown Partnership Committee, and we are eager to get back to work,” said President Kotierk. “This includes finalizing plans for Inuktut teacher training and drafting of the Nunavut Fisheries Regulations.”
