GIqaluit, Nunavut (March 17, 2001) James Etoolook, on behalf of Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated, today accepted the resignation of Paul Quassa as President of the Organization. Quassa stated he is resigning due to personal reasons and the need for more time with family.
“Board members of Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated came together to deal with the resignation and accept it with regret” said James Etoolook, 2nd Vice President for NTI. “Our responsibility at NTI is to ensure and protect the rights of the beneficiaries, the Inuit of Nunavut. I know that Paul’s decision to resign was a very hard one to make but we will proceed as best we can to ensure continuity regarding the Organization for Inuit of Nunavut and in respect of his decision for his family.
Paul Quassa’s resignation becomes effective as of July 31, 2001. James Etoolook, 2nd Vice President of NTI, will act in his capacity leading up to the relection for the position.
“I would like to reiterate to the beneficiaries that the hard work that has been carried out will continue and has not been lost for Nunavut and I would like to indicate my continuing support to Inuit rights “, said Quassa. “I want to thank those who supported me over many years and extend my apologiy for resigning as the President at Nunavut Tunngavik Incoporated. I believe my efforts must be concentrated elsewhere at this time.
Elections for 1st Vice President and Vice President of Finance for Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated are scheduled for December 10, 2001. The board will meet within the next two weeks to consider a by-election for the position of President or to decide upon it at their next Annual General Meeting.
