NTI Launches Photography Contest for Inuit

NR 06-16 PHO ENG Photo Contest.doc

(October 17, 2006 — Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. President Paul Kaludjak today officially launched a new photography contest for Inuit. The contest, launched on NTI’s new website, provides Inuit with the opportunity to submit their photographs to NTI. NTI will use the photographs on their website and potentially in publications.

When Inuit are out on the land, we are capturing the beauty of Nunavut with our cameras. We want to showcase this talent, and provide Inuit with the opportunity to have their work published on our website and in our publications, said Kaludjak. We want to share these experiences and our connection to the land with a wide audience of people.

Beneficiaries can enter up to five photographs each month in the contest. A team of NTI employees will judge the entries and select a winner each month. The winning entries will be entered into the Photo of the Year contest, the winner of which will receive a $500 award.

Inuit can submit pictures of Nunavut landscapes, communities and wildlife. Pictures of people will also be considered, although photographers must have the people who appear in their pictures complete and sign Photo Release Forms which state that the person agrees to have their image reproduced on the website and possibly in NTI publications and materials. Photographers who enter the contest must also complete a Photographer Consent Form.
Photo Release Forms and Photographer Consent Forms can be downloaded from the website or obtained from NTI’s Department of Communications. These forms must be completed and signed and submitted with the photograph.
Photographers who may have already submitted pictures are asked to resubmit their work with the appropriate forms completed.
