(January 5, 2004 — Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. today announced that the Nomination Period for NTI Elections will open next week, Jan. 12, 2004. The Nomination Period will remain open for two weeks and closes Jan. 26, 2004.
The positions of NTI President and 2nd Vice-President are up for election March 16, 2004.
Eligible candidates must be Canadian citizens, must be at least 16 years of age and must be enrolled or eligible to enrol under the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement.
Nomination forms for the positions of NTI President and 2nd Vice-President can be obtained from Chief Returning Officer Helen Klengenberg or from a Community Liaison Officer.
In communities where there currently is no Community Liaison Officer, eligible candidates may contact the Chief Returning Officer at 1-800-NTI-VOTE.
Eligible candidates must file their nomination papers with the Chief Returning Officer no later than 5 p.m. local time on Jan. 26, 2004.
Candidates are responsible for ensuring that nomination papers sent to the Chief Returning Officer are received. If nomination papers are not received by deadline, a potential candidate will not be permitted to run in the NTI Elections under any circumstance.
Potential candidates may withdraw their nomination papers no later than 5 p.m. local time on Jan. 29, 2004.
