(July 6, 2021 – Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) President Aluki Kotierk today congratulates Mary Simon on her appointment as Canada’s first Indigenous Governor General.

Mary Simon’s extensive career and advocacy has touched on all aspects of Inuit life. She has held the seat of: Vice-President and President of Nunavik’s Inuit Organization Makivik; Executive Council, President and Special Envoy of the Inuit Circumpolar Conference; President of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami; and was appointed by Prime Minister Jean Chretien to be the first Canadian Ambassador for Circumpolar Affairs.
