The program awards funds to students seeking to improve their cultural and academic skills. Both grants programs are open to Beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement (NLCA).

To qualify, applicants were asked to write a short essay about the NLCA.

Congratulations to all of the applicants. NTI is proud to support Inuit cultural and academic studies. Kakiniit is an excellent program and I look forward to continuing to provide funding for students who are practicing, promoting, and carrying on our cultural traditions and venturing into academic studies, said Kaludjak.

We are pleased to work with NTI to provide these opportunities for our students, said Premier Okalik. I commend the recipients for advancing their cultural and academic knowledge and skills.

Kakiniit grants are co-funded by NTI and the GN. Application forms for next year’s Kakiniit grants will be available April 1, 2009.
