NR 08-36 QAU ENG Qauma 2009 sched.doc

(September 18, 2008 – Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. has released the 2008/09 schedule for the Qauma Mobile Treatment Project.

The schedule for this year’s visits is as follows:

Qikiqtarjuaq Sept. 29 – Oct. 24

Coral Harbor Nov. 10 – Dec. 5

Grise Fiord Jan.12 – Feb. 6

Cambridge Bay Mar. 2 – 27

The Qauma Mobile Treatment Project focuses on the mental, physical, social and spiritual needs of its participants. A healing team will hold workshops on grieving, coping skills, anger management, healing and sharing circles, as well as one on one counseling. The program will run for four weeks in each community.

The program has been designed to address the needs of former residential school students and their families; however the services are open to anyone who wants to heal from trauma or abuse.

The communities were identified through a selection process conducted by a steering committee comprised of former residential school students from Nunavut. NTI is now accepting letters of requests from individuals and communities that want the program delivered in their community in 2009/10.

The Qauma Mobile Treatment Project is funded by the Aboriginal Healing Foundation. Since 2003 NTI has delivered this project to help former residential school students deal with the long lasting effects of their experiences.
