Inuit Midwifery, Prenatal Postpartum and Birthing Support Projects

Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) is looking to support Nunavut communities and organizations to enhance access to a continuum of culturally safe prenatal, birthing and postpartum projects, programs and services for Inuit. In August 2025 the NTI Board of Directors approved $3 million of midwifery funding to go towards community-based contributions. To distribute this $3 million NTI is issuing this call for proposals. The purpose of this call for proposals is to provide and enhance opportunities for Inuit to support cultural revitalization and broader supports for pregnant individuals to mitigate some of the negative and ongoing trauma and impacts of colonization, including evacuations for birth.
Example areas of eligible projects and services for prenatal, birthing and postpartum programs and services are listed below:
• Community-Led Visioning/Planning
• Inuit workforce development (education and training)
• Programming and service expansion:
• Minor infrastructure investments:
Eligible Recipients
Priority will be given to:
• Not-for-profit organizations in Nunavut
• Nunavut Municipalities
Other eligible recipients include:
• Nunavut Inuit for-profit firms with majority ownership by Nunavut Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement proposing a non-profit activity
• Not- for-profit Inuit or Indigenous organizations outside Nunavut with at least two-thirds of their clientele made up of Nunavut Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement.
• Recognized national Inuit organizations in partnership with NTI and/or RIAs developing joint programs to benefit Nunavut Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement may also be considered for funding.
