Fisheries Advisor

Reporting to the Director of Policy and Planning, you will coordinate and participate in the implementation of Inuit responsibilities directly relating to the management of Nunavut’s fisheries activities under the Nunavut Agreement (NA). You will also develop plans, policies and procedures to ensure that the resources are appropriately managed and maximize their benefits to the Inuit of Nunavut.
The skills, knowledge and abilities that you possess must include the ability to demonstrate initiative and being self-motivated; the ability to analyze and interpret complex policy, legislation and regulations. You must have effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to make presentations to a variety of audiences and have an extensive knowledge of policy development and research.
You should have the basic knowledge and understanding of the NA, Fisheries Act and any other relevant legislation or industry regulations; the knowledge of and sensitivity to Inuit issues; strong presentation skills; the ability to deal simultaneously with multiple files; the sensitivity for the political and cultural environments and the ability to work under high levels of stress and pressure. Educational or equivalent work experience in the fisheries sector, strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills are essential. Preference will be given to Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement.

Starting salary is $79,215.00 (Commensurate with experience). This position comes with $24,000.00 Northern and Housing allowance.
