Chief Executive Officer

Our client, Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to lead the organization through a period of growth and new initiatives. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO is the main point of contact between NTI, government agencies and Inuit organizations at the operational level. The CEO is responsible for developing and implementing the organization’s comprehensive strategic plan, implementing the Board’s directives and ensuring achievement of the strategic results set by the Board.

NTI Mission Statement: Inuit economic, social, and cultural well-being through implementation of the Nunavut Agreement.

Key responsibilities include:

· Ensuring the achievement of the strategic results set by the Board and its policies within the established constraints.
· Provide leadership in acting as the executive sponsor and champion of major change initiatives and communications with employees about the organization.
· Directing the organizational performance effectively, efficiently and consistent with its unique values, needs and policies.
· Representing the organization publicly in dealings with government agencies, Inuit organizations and the general public.
· Ensure all NTI policies and procedures and kept up to date and promote compliance of these policies among all Board Members, staff and contracted workers.
· Ensure that NTI meets its legal and financial obligations.
· Carry out all of the CEO’s responsibilities under NTI’s governance system, overseeing the organizational Operations including the NTI affiliate organizations.
· Develop and implement strategic plans to advance the company’s vision, mission, values, goals and objectives.
· Maintain the organization’s fiscal integrity and public image.
· Ensure the Nunavut Agreement (NA) is a priority and ensure all levels of Government understand their responsibilities as defined by the NA.
· Develop and implement change initiatives, including corporate reorganizations, strategy change, new workflow and human resources strategies.
· Lead the effective and timely preparation and organization of all Board, Executive and Annual General meetings.
· Effectively manage the organization’s risk as required by the Board Governance Policy.
· Serve as the Director of the Department of Executive Services.
· Guide the organization through change by establishing and creating internal structures and processes.
· Ensure the effective functioning of NTI’s departments and programs.
· Approve all human resource planning.
· Plan, develop and implement strategies for generating resource revenues for the organization.
· Take full responsibility for NTI’s financial management (consolidated budget of $300M), affiliates budget of $75M and NTI Group of Companies investments of $350M.
· Establish and maintain financial and administrative controls.
· Ensure the timely preparation of organizational budgets, monitor the financial performance and report results to the Board.
· Ensure the development and maintenance of an up-to-date Strategic Plan.
· Oversee the efficient implementation of the Strategic Plan.
· Act as the chief staff liaison with the public.
· Develop and maintain good working relationships with Inuit Organizations.
· Develop and maintain constructive working relations with the Government of Nunavut and the Government of Canada.
· Promote corporate social responsibility throughout the organization.
· Promote the organization to local, regional, national and international stakeholders and governments.
· Present annual reports to the Annual General Meetings and Board of Directors.

Qualifications:

· A degree or diploma in business administration or other management designation (MBA).
· A thorough knowledge of NTI systems of Corporate Governance, Mission Statement and Board policies.
· Strong knowledge of the Nunavut Agreement (NA).
· A thorough knowledge of NTI’s structure and operations.
· 10+ years experience in a senior management position.
· Ability to align organizational plans and action with the vision and direction for the organization.
· Strong business acumen related to business operations and developing new revenue streams.
· An energetic self-starter with proven leadership and management skills.
· Demonstrated success in implementing a strategic plan.
· Strong ability in developing and maintaining budgets and presenting results to the Board.
· Proven ability to work in a politically sensitive environment.
· Effective leadership in managing staff and being a change agent for the organization.
· Demonstrated sensitivity to Inuit issues.
· Strong public presentation skills, networking and negotiation skills.
· Familiarity with government processes and direct experience in dealing with governments.
· Ability to work under high levels of stress/pressure.
· Fluency in Inuktitut or Inuinnaqtun is a strong asset.

Compensation and benefits:

· The discussed salary range is $255,000 – $305,000.
· Comprehensive benefit package including employee pension plan, group insurance and vacation travel.
