Under the direction of the Director of Marine, the Assistant Director of Marine is responsible to uphold Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated’s (NTI) commitment to implementing the Nunavut Agreement and its strong advocacy for Inuit economic, social, and cultural wellbeing; while augmenting opportunities for Inuit self-sufficiency and mitigating challenges to protect the marine environment; and advancing Inuit self-determination. The main objective is to assist in the implementation of the Marine Framework and Action Plan, which focuses on three areas regarding Nunavut marine issues and activities (conservation, sustainable economic development and shipping and security) to bring benefits and mitigate harm.

To be invited to an interview you must have an advanced university degree from a recognized university or education equivalent with a university degree and extensive experience in Inuit research forums. Experience in marine policy research and analysis, minimum of one year experience in financial and budget management or research grants. Extensive experience in delivery of or development of Inuit training programs, ability to work co-operatively with a variety of individuals and groups, both governments, Inuit organizations and international agencies, be aware and understand the relevant protocols procedures and policies (i.e. applicable Acts, policies, legislation: NTI, Territorial, Federal and International); Knowledge of financial management processes to carry out responsibilities of administering a large budget; ability to speak Inuktitut or Inuinnaqtun, or willingness to learn is a requirement.

Preference will be given to Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement.

Starting salary is $145,745.00 per annum (commensurate with experience) a comprehensive benefit package including an employee pension plan, group insurance and vacation travel assistance.

Housing allowance of $35,232.00
