Voting Day for NTI Elections

Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. Chief Returning Officer Adamee Itorcheak announced today polls would open on voting day for the election of president on Dec. 10, 2012, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. local time.

Mikidjuk Akavak, Larry Audlaluk, Savikataaq Ford, Paul Kaludjak, Vinnie Karetak, Jerry Komaksiutiksak, David Kunuk, Gabriel Nirlungayuk, Bernadette Niviatsiak, Manitok Thompson, and Cathy Towtongie submitted their nomination papers for the election of president.

Towtongie is taking a leave of absence from NTI in accordance with NTI policies. NTI Vice-President James Eetoolook is serving as NTI’s acting president during the election period.

Polling stations will be available in 25 Nunavut communities, Yellowknife, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Ottawa. Voters can also vote by proxy. Voters must be Canadian citizens, at least 16 years of age, enrolled or eligible to enroll under the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement.
