Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. President Cathy Towtongie today congratulated her colleague and fellow NTI Board member Charlie Evalik for receiving an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Alberta. Evalik will officially receive the honor next month from the university’s convocation ceremonies in June.

“I am so happy for Charlie. All his years of dedication, commitment and vision for Inuit is acknowledged with this tremendous achievement,” said Towtongie. “I applaud Charlie personally and professionally.”

The university bestowed the honor upon Evalik because of his long-standing contributions to Nunavut and Inuit.

Evalik was recently re-elected as President of the Kitikmeot Inuit Association, a position he has held almost exclusively since 1996.
