Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. Chief Returning Officer Nancy Karetak-Lindell said today that efforts were continuing to update NTI’s Voters List prior to the election for vice-president on Dec. 8, 2014. Karetak-Lindell said that community liaison officers were setting up tables in community grocery stores next week, Sept. 15-19, to assist Inuit in verifying the information on the Voters List.
Inuit who are 16 years or older on Dec. 8, 2014 and enrolled under the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement are included on the Voters List, indicating they are eligible to vote in NTI Elections. If you believe you are eligible to vote, but are not on the list, which likely indicates you are not enrolled under the NLCA, community liaison officers can assist Inuit with the enrolment process.
Inuit who are on the list are asked to check the spelling of their names and ensure it matches the spelling on their identification. Inuit are asked to check that the community they are associated with is accurate. Please note that your associated community is usually the community where you were initially enrolled or the traditional community of your family. It is not necessarily where you currently reside.with the correct information. You can also call Margaret Kusugak in Rankin Inlet at 867-645-5400 or toll-free at 1-888-236-5400. Inuit can also contact the community liaison officer in their community with the correct information.
Eligible voters have until Oct. 24, 2014 to update the information on the Voters List.
