(October 4, 2010 — Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. Chief Returning Officer Lori Idlout announced today that NTI will hold elections for two vice-president positions December 13, 2010.
Both vice-president positions will serve on the NTI Board of Directors. After the election, the NTI Board will assign the successful candidates either the role of Chair of Nunavut Social Development Council or Chair of Inuit Wildlife Advisory Council.
When voters head to the polls, they will be asked to vote for two candidates whose names appear on the ballots.
Eligible candidates and voters must be Canadian citizens, at least 16 years of age, and enrolled under the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement.
Nomination forms for the two vice-president positions can be obtained from the Chief Returning Officer, Community Liaison Officers, or NTI’s website.
Candidates must file their nomination papers with the Chief Returning Officer no later than 5 p.m. local time on Nov. 5, 2010. Candidates are responsible for ensuring that nomination papers sent to the Chief Returning Officer are received. If nomination papers are not received by deadline, a potential candidate will not be permitted to run in the NTI Elections.
Candidates may withdraw their nomination papers until 5 p.m. local time on Nov. 8, 2010.
Voters can also head to advance polls Dec. 6, 2010, and can vote by proxy.
