NTI launches new Residential School section of website

(Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. President Paul Kaludjak today announced that NTI has launched a new information section on its website for Nunavummiut affected by Residential School.

“Residential Schools have affected thousands of Inuit, both directly and indirectly,” said President Paul Kaludjak. “NTI is pleased to launch a clear and accessible directory specifically for Inuit seeking the information and support they need to begin or continue healing themselves and their families. It is our hope that these resources will bring those affected one step closer to finding closure,” said Kaludjak.

NTI’s website will offer the following information in Inuktitut, English and Innuinaqtun:

  • A clear overview of the Indian Residential School Settlement Agreement.
  • Detailed information about compensation, including the Common Experience Payment, the Independent Assessment Process and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
  • Application forms for compensation.
  • A list of legal support, including information on how to find and pay a lawyer.
  • Contact information for Community Liaison Officers who are available to help answer preliminary questions regarding a claim.
  • A list of available health support including, counseling, emotional and cultural support and transportation services.
  • Web links to other helpful sites.
