(November 7, 2002 – Gjoa Haven, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. today recognized the contributions a number of individuals and organizations have made to Inuit well-being in a special ceremony during the Annual General Meeting. More than 100 Beneficiaries were on hand to witness the presentation of plaques to hockey star Jordan Tootoo among others.

There are many people who help make Inuit strong – it is a privilege for us to draw attention to their accomplishments and to thank them for their dedication to Inuit culture and society, said NTI President Cathy Towtongie. This year’s NTI Awards were presented to:

Gideon Qitsualik – Now a respected elder, he helped launch the negotiation of the land claims agreement and went on to serve for many years with the Kitikmeot Inuit Association.
