NR 02-14 COM ENG Community Tour.doc
(September 23, 2002 — Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik President Cathy Towtongie and 1st Vice President James Eetoolook will visit three Kitikmeot communities this week to consult with beneficiaries.
We recognize the importance of meeting directly with our members, said President Towtongie. It’s important that we make the time to share information directly with the people we serve in their communities. We look forward to answering their questions.
The first phase of the 2002 Community Tour will take in the communities of Kugluktuk (Sept 24-26), Cambridge Bay (Sept. 26-29) and Taloyoak (Sept. 29-Oct. 1). The NTI Executive members will meet with youth, elders and hamlet officials in each community. Community radio interviews will also take place.
The community tour is an excellent way to stay accountable to our members, said President Towtongie. It’s important that people know that they can talk directly with the NTI Executive about their concerns and hopes.
Scheduling for the remainder of the Community Tour has yet to take place but will take in communities in the Baffin and Kivalliq regions.
