NR 02-1B LAM ENG Lamb Appointment.doc

(January 30, 2002 – IQALUIT, Nunavut) The Board of Directors of Nunavut Tunngavik Inc (NTI) is pleased to announce the appointment of John Lamb as Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Lamb was the founder and for ten years the Executive Director of the Canadian Centre for Global Security, Canada’s leading non-governmental policy think tank dealing with international security issues. He also consulted, chiefly on Arctic policy issues, for federal government departments and agencies, as well as non-government organizations such as the Inuit Circumpolar Conference. Mr. Lamb joined NTI as Director of Implementation in 1999. He has been Acting CEO since November 2001, while the recruitment process for the position was carried out.

John Lamb lives in Iqaluit. He is married to Allison Lee, an instructor at Arctic College, and they have a teenage daughter. Since moving to Iqaluit, John’s family has become involved in a number of community events and organizations, including the Iqaluit Greenhouse Society and the Arctic Winter Games Society.

Under the new governance model adopted by NTI’s Board in 2001, the Chief Executive Officer is responsible for all operational and administrative aspects of the organization. The Board sets constraint and results policies and the CEO ensures that the identified results are obtained within the constraints set by the Board. The model makes the CEO the only employee of the Board and the connection between policy and operation. This is an extremely important position and the Board expresses its confidence in John Lamb’s skills, experience and performance by appointing him.
