(November 1, 2010 — Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. Chief Returning Officer Lori Idlout announced that Nomination Period for the by-election of president and election of two vice-presidents at NTI opened today.
The president and two vice-president positions will be elected to the NTI Board of Directors. After the election, the NTI Board will assign the successful vice-president candidates either the role of Chair of Nunavut Social Development Council or Chair of Inuit Wildlife Advisory Council.
The by-election and election are scheduled for Dec. 13, 2010. Voters can head to advance polls Dec. 6, 2010, and can also vote by proxy.
Eligible candidates must be Canadian citizens, at least 16 years of age, and be enrolled under the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement.
Nomination forms can be obtained from the Chief Returning Officer, Community Liaison Officers, or from NTI’s website.
Eligible candidates must file their nomination papers with the Chief Returning Officer no later than 5 p.m. local time on Nov. 5, 2010.
Candidates are responsible for ensuring that nomination papers sent to the Chief Returning Officer are received. If nomination papers are not received by deadline, a potential candidate will not be permitted to run in the NTI elections.
Potential candidates may withdraw their nomination papers until 5 p.m. local time on Nov. 8, 2010.
