CORRECTION NOTICE TO PRESS RELEASE REGARDING NTI Election for President 2020

(September 28, 2020 – Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) will hold an election for President on December 14, 2020. The nomination period for declaring candidacy runs from November 2–6, 2020. Please keep in mind:

  • Eligible candidates for election as a member of the NTI Executive must be Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement, who are 16 years of age or older on December 14, and eligible to vote.  Full election rules and procedures will be included in the Nomination package.
  • Nomination forms can be obtained from Kathleen Sigurdson, the Chief Returning Officer (CRO), Community Liaison Officers (CLO) or NTI’s website, once the nomination period opens on November 2, 2020 at 9 a.m. EST.
  • The person must submit completed nomination papers to the CRO. Candidates are responsible for ensuring that nomination papers sent to the CRO are received.
  • If nomination papers are not received by November 6 at 5 p.m. local time, a potential candidate will not be permitted to run in the election.
  • As a potential candidate you may begin campaigning with your own resources starting immediately. However, you are not permitted to fundraise until you are officially declared a candidate by the CRO.
  • Candidates may withdraw their nomination papers any time before 5 p.m. local time on November 9, 2020.

Please note: On the July 6, 2020 NTI news release, there was an error in the nomination period dates: November 9-13, 2020.  Correction: the nomination period for declaring candidacy runs from November 2-6, 2020.

NEW for 2020 – COVID Planning

In addition to the usual planning for weather conditions for the vote in December, NTI will also have contingency plans for COVID-19. NTI will follow the guidelines of Nunavut’s Chief Public Health Officer to ensure the safety of candidates, staff and voters.
