(December 3, 2003 — Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. today announced that Helen Klengenberg of Aarluk Consulting Inc. was named Chief Returning Officer for the upcoming NTI elections, scheduled for March 16, 2004.
The positions of NTI President and Second Vice-President are both up for election.
We are extremely pleased that Helen Klengenberg has agreed to take on this important role, said NTI Chief Executive Officer John Lamb. She has considerable experience in Nunavut and that will be very valuable to the organization during the election period.
Ms. Klengenberg will be supported by Lazarus Arreak as Assistant Chief Returning Officer during her term. Aarluk Consulting Inc. will also hire 43 Deputy Returning Officers and 19 Poll Clerks to assist in the election. Community Liaison Officers will fill the remaining 24 Poll Clerk positions.
Upon being named Chief Returning Officer, Klengenberg announced several key dates related to the NTI election, scheduled to take place March 16, 2004. The dates are as follows:
January 12, 2004: Nomination papers are made available to candidates
January 12 – 26, 2004: NTI directors, officers and employees who plan to run for office must take a leave of absence the day they file their nomination papers.
January 26, 2004: Completed nomination papers are due
January 29, 2004: Deadline for candidates to withdraw
February 17, 2004: Deputy Returning Officers are appointed in communities
March 8, 2004: Advance poll day
March 16, 2004: Election day
