NR 08-42 MAT ENG NTI AGM By-Law Amendment reduce size of AGM.doc

(December 2, 2008 -Iqaluit, Nunavut) The delegates of the Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. Annual General Meeting passed a resolution to amend by-law 3.2 last week in Cambridge Bay which will reduce the NTI membership from 47 to 23.

I commend the members for seeing a change that needed to be made and making it. With the reduction of the delegation we will eliminate duplication and reduce costs, substantively saving about $250,000 or more of Inuit funds from the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement. said NTI President Paul Kaludjak.

The NTI membership will be comprised of 23 members. The three regional Inuit associations will appoint five members each. The Qikiqtani Inuit Association will also appoint a 6th non-voting member. NTI will appoint three members, one representative for women, one representative aged 55 years or older who will represent Elders and one representative aged 16 years or older who will represent youth. The President, 1st Vice-President and Vice-President of Finance remain as members and the Nunavut Trust will be an ex officio member.

In accordance with applicable law, the new amendment will become effective upon receiving ministerial approval from Industry Canada.
