Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. to React to Auditor-General’s Report

NR 04-09 MED ENG Auditor General Report.doc

(February 9, 2004 — Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. will hold a press conference tomorrow, Feb. 10, to officially react to Auditor-General Sheila Fraser’s report.

Chapter Eight of Ms. Fraser’s report deals with the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and their mismanagement of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement and the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement. Ms. Fraser’s report will also shed light on how poorly DIAND has kept Parliament and the Canadian public informed on the implementation of land claim agreements.

The press conference gets under way at 3:45 p.m. in the NTI boardroom in Iqaluit.

A second press conference will be held on Parliament Hill in Ottawa tomorrow afternoon. NTI President James Eetoolook and MP Nancy Karetak-Lindell will react to the auditor-general’s report at that time.
