Johnnie Echalook last visit back to Inukjuak in 1972 before he passed away in Resolute in 1973. Johnnie and his wife Minnie relocated to Resolute Bay in 1955 to join their daughter Sarah, who had relocated in 1953, at age 16, with her husband Simeonie Amagoalik. Johnnie and Minnie had written a letter to Simeonie a year after the relocation to ask how things were. Simeonie never received the letter, however, he did write a letter to Johnnie and Minnie telling them that things were not as they expected and that they should not come. Johnnie and Minnine never received that letter, however they did receive a message from the RCMP stating that Simeonie and his family were happy and very much wanted his parents-in-law to join his family in Resolute Bay.
