Our door to door campaign has begun!
The TAIMA TB Team may be visiting your home in Iqaluit over the next coming weeks to offer you in home education about Tuberculosis as well as testing and treatment for sleeping TB infection.
Our Team is made up of expert TB nurses and TB champions. Visits will be made in both English and Inuktitut.
We would love to be welcomed into your home so we can continue to raise awareness about TB and work together to help STOP TB in Iqaluit!
The TAIMA TB YouTube video challenge wrapped up April 3rd, 2011. Final video editing has been completed and all of our videos are now posted on YouTube in English and Inuktitut. Search “Taima Tb” on YouTube and you will find all 6 of our videos.
The public first viewed the videos on TAIMA TB Night, April 28th. All participants received a FLIP video camera so they can continue to make great videos.
There was a tie for the grand prize of $1000. Paul Aoudla and Allen Auksak split the grand prize and each received $500.
Thanks to all participants. It was very difficult to choose our grand prizewinners. Our other video creators were Karen Stoney, Marilyn Aupaloota, Meeka Ipeelie, and Christopher Qinnuayuaq. Special thanks to Polar Man for all his help and hard work.
Our TAIMA TB Night community feast happened on Thursday, April 28th at the Anglican Parish Hall and was a big success.
Guest speakers were Territorial Health Minister Tagak Curley, NTI Vice President Jack Anawak and Chief Medical Officer of Health for Nunavut, Dr. Geraldine Osborne.
The TAIMA TB Team was introduced and TAIMA TB’s director Dr. Gonzalo Alvarez gave project remarks. Team members include Deborah VanDyk, project coordinator, Natasha Stephen and Naomi Davies, public health nurses, and Elizabeth Misheralak and Susie Ishulutak, TB Champions.
Everyone ate well, there were lots of door prizes, TB storytelling and the unveiling of the TAIMA TB YouTube videos.
Thanks to all of the organizers and to everyone who helped with making this event a success. Everyone left with full bellies and new knowledge about TB and what can be done to help stop TB in Nunavut!
