Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. President Cathy Towtongie today announced that Terry Audla was hired as the new chief executive officer of the organization.
Audla has been employed by the Qikiqtani Inuit Association since 2001, and has been involved with the implementation of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement since 1993.
“Terry brings nearly two decades of experience with land claims implementation with him to NTI,” said Towtongie. “We are very pleased to have him as part of the team as NTI continues in its efforts to achieve full implementation of the NLCA.”
Audla begins his employment at NTI March 14, 2011.
Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. is now accepting applications for the 2011 Kakiniit Grants program. The program was launched by NTI and the Government of Nunavut in 2007 to encourage and assist students with their cultural and academic education.
The program awards $1,000 to five students seeking to improve their cultural or traditional skills, and $1,000 to five students enrolled in academic training at a post-secondary institution. Only Beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement are eligible for the scholarship programs.
The names of successful recipients will be announced on Nunavut Day, July 9, 2011, during the celebrations in Iqaluit.
Applicants are asked to submit their applications online at www.tunngavik.com not later than Friday, May 27, 2011 by 5 p.m. ET.
Iqalummiut are invited to a special memorial service for Jose Kusugak at Cadet Hall on Friday, February 4, 2011, at 2 pm. Jose reached out to people across Nunavut. An Iqaluit memorial service will allow people who were not able to attend the formal service in Rankin Inlet to pay their last respects.
A book of condolences will be available for personal messages to the Kusugak family.
Light refreshments will be available.
